LGBT Pride parades are famous the world over for their exuberant yet message-driven theme. Part celebration, part march for equal rights, the parades are often distinguished by lively participants who brandish colorful flags, symbols and signs. But what does each color of the pride flag represent?
Lesbiangaybisexualand transgender LGBT communities have adopted certain symbols for which they are identified and by which they demonstrate unity, prideshared values, and allegiance to one another. LGBT symbols also communicate ideas, concepts and identity both within their communities and to mainstream cultures. Arguably the two most-recognized international LGBT symbols are the pink triangle and the rainbow flag.
One symbol which continues to remain popular is the lower case Greek letter lambda. The GAA was a group which broke away from the larger Gay Liberation Front at the end ofonly six months after it's foundation in response to the Stonewall Riots. While the GLF wanted to work side by side with the black and women's liberation movements to gain unity and acceptance, the GAA wanted to focus their efforts more concisely on only Gay and Lesbian issues.

There are lots of symbols that represent homosexuality. From the pun not intended gaiety of the rainbow flag to the somber significance of the inverted pink or black triangles or the mythological connections of the labrys, you can usually find a motif that suits your purpose. But untilwhen Michael Page designed the flag that would become a global shorthand for bisexuality, there was no universal symbol under which the movement could unite.

The bisexual pride flag was designed by Michael Page in in order to give the bisexual community its own symbol comparable to the gay pride flag of the larger LGBT community. His aim was to increase the visibility of bisexuals, both among society as a whole and within the LGBT community. Biangles, or bisexuality triangles, are another symbol for the bisexual community with unclear origins.
A bisexual person may not be equally attracted to men and women. The degree of attraction to any sex can be fluid and may change over time. Bisexuals, like all people, have a wide variety of relationships. Sexual involvement with one or more particular genders at the same time is not necessary for all bisexuals.
